Does anyone know what the bootsqm.dat file in the root of the system dive is related to and what it's purpose is, also, can it be safely deleted, it appeared when i scheduled a quick boot time scan using the inbuilt chkdsk of Win 7 build 7600 so it seems it's related to this but i'm curious what the file is used for and whether it can be safely deleted.

Thanks!

Well, i backed up my system drive and deleted the file, it doesn't reappear until i run chkdsk again so it seems like the file is just for reporting chkdsk results to event viewer, it seems it is also safe to delete.

correct me if im wrong, but doesnt chkdsk replicate the file if its missing? since it is the boot sequence, it needs to make sure its there?

The file only gets created when chkdsk has finnished checking the disk and just before the system reboots, the file isn't needed after the chkdsk, is isn't replicated after deletion either unless you run another boot time chkdsk.
