One last play with the clocks before I try a custom bios. I can run the card stable to 1450mhz with the stock voltage 1.187mv. Fairly surprised at that.

What i am seeing is a rapidly climbing tdp once you hit 1450mhz. I guess this is what nvidia found. Will depend partly on the silicon but 325w tdp nets 1513mhz at 1205mv and starts hitting tdp again. Card can do 1250mv but never gets there due to tdp. Reason g1s go higher is in part to their higher tdp bios limit hence the 2x8pin connectors over the 6+8 on ref.

Going to try 350w probably and see if i get another 30mhz bump. I expect vrm temps are having effects here but you cant read their temps.

Guys, im trying to fit a backplate on mine but im having trouble with these goddamn screws on the reference cards!!!!! Why are they so hard to get off!!!

Ive gone through two screwdrivers and the head of the screw is proper worn now so ive pretty much no grip. Any advice?

Drill the rounded screw out.

Buy better screw drivers, look for "FAST608" on ebay. Use a fair amount of downward pressure on the screws when undoing them.

Kiss goodbye to your warranty unless you can find an EXACT replacement for the rounded screw(s).

Had the same issue on my Gigabyte reference, could get all bar one of them off; I finally gave up in the end and sent it back claiming it came like that :D And no I didn't buy it from OcUK so I'm not ashamed of saying that

After wearing one of the heads out on mine I tried using rubberbands, mole grips, needlenose pliers and a power drill with both 1mm and 1.5mm drill bits (HSS). Good luck mate, hope you can get it sorted.

People in this thread may be a wee bit biased, but I've built a new Haswell-E rig and the only thing I kept from the old rig was my GTX770.

The 770 runs Witcher 3 ok at 1440 but I'd really like to upgrade to get it looking a bit shinier and have had my eye on a 980Ti since release. Only issue is price, I'm happy to shell out for a 980Ti if there is no decent alternative but is there anything out there a bit cheaper that would be a worthy upgrade from a 770?

I know the original non-Ti 980 wasn't worth upgrading to from a 770, is there anything in the AMD camp that comes close?

are you using a philips head screwdriver to try and undo a pozidrive screw?

The 4 diagonal lines on screws aren't for decoration

wish everyone would just use hexkey screws though.....

The Zotac Extreme Edition at 599£. Interesting.
Had a 780 Amp!, Loud, but it did perform quite well, another card to look out for (almost glad had to RMA mine, now I'm forced to wait until I get the refund).

Just noticed with my 2 gaming 6g's and the asus rampage V that the VRM heatsink is practically touching the backplate on the top GPU :(. Took it out and luckly havent scratched it but had to put some tape on the GPU backplate (not visible) as by distance i mean less than 0.5mm between so i can see it easily being scratched trying to wiggle it free etc.

So anyone with a rampage v Extreme x99 make sure you have a look and consider doing the same if your looking to get the MSI gaming 6g 980Ti or possibly any other backplated GPU.

Looks like im gonna have wait a bit longer to play.

Ive always been AMD and didnt realise nvidia dont give you a sli cable :( actually phoned ocuk to complain that it was missing only to be told it comes with motherboard. Guess ill have to order one! Very cheap from nvidia tho, every amd card i bought has come with a crossfire bridge

if it is fully rounded off either use a small flat head on one of the slots and try almost lever it round. If it fully gets rounded off try a torque bit, superglue screwdriver to the head or might end up drilling it out.

Always buy a good quality screwdriver (good size, make, hardened etc), makes all the difference as the cheaper ones tend to not fit/grip screw heads correctly.

@Anchor yh i did use the correct phillips head screw

i really dont wanna resort to drilling. ive already tried the rubber band trick and that didnt do much. ive done one card all installed and done. its just the second one which is a pita! got two screws out just need another 6 out.

i'll try again later tonight, was proabably best not to do it with sweaty hands with this heat :/

if that fails ill look into that fast608 you recommended amigo. thanks all for the advice :)
