So it took me quite a while to get to this point.

I was debating with myself for ages between the HOF, 6G or G1. Went for the 6G and while performance was good, the temps were reaching nearly 80 (sometimes breaching) under witcher 3 after about 30 mins (tried out the various profiles). Paying more for the aftermarket cooler, I wasn't impressed and RMA'd it. (I don't like doing this but it's a very expensive item to not be happy with...).

Anyway, spent the next week reading basically every review of every card online... I wanted the G1 for it's great performance and temps, but its' louder + potential coil whine issues put me off. It's also £600. The more I read about the Palit though the more it made sense - cool card, silent, decent overclocker, looks go with my set up... just the lack of feedback was off putting. At £515 I took the plunge though and damn was it a good choice :D

I ran witcher 3 under the same conditions as the MSI card and it didn't go above 68C :eek: Not only that but the stock boost clock runs higher than the MSI card... and it also overclocks better too, I beat my benchmarks all around. Well - do I have a better ASIC card you ask? No, it is actually worse! (by about 1 ~ 2 %).

So yeah - this palit runs quieter, runs cooler, runs faster, and is cheaper than the MSI... happy to say the least. :D Running an overclock of 1440mhz + 3950 memory stable on witcher 3 currently. Still not getting above 68, but I think I will get it to ~72 when I close the door/windows to cook it up in here.

very helpfull , myself deciding which 980ti to go with , zotec extreme has high pre clocked , but not liking the fan kicking in randomly , then the gigabyte g1, could get coil noise and then its louder,

the Palit NVIDIA GTX 980Ti Super Jetstream seems nice priced compared to them, and with overclocking it will preform similar, wondering what did you use to overclock it ?

I used afterburner. 1450mhz was bench stable, but as soon as I went +10 to that it was crashing quick. Surprised 1440 is so game stable to be honest. Also +400 on the memory.

At stock the card was boosting higher, but benched lower (marginally) than the 6G.

While its not necessarily the fastest card going, for me the balance of it being cool and quiet makes it ideal. I did notice that the coil whine was a touch more noticable than the MSI when in super high fps like exiting heaven bench, but in game you have to put your head in your case to hear anything of the sort! May have got a little more unlucky with that but since its literally not noticable in regular use its fine.

Overall very happy with it. It's a 2.5 slot card, so very big though! Not as issue for me, but could be for others.

The MSI Gaming 6G is perfect for the Kraken G10. Higher power limit than reference, 2x8pin. Most importantly the VRMs and memory are already covered with a midplate which you leave there. The backplate stays on and the cooler is much easier to remove than reference. Just undo four screws surrounding the GPU. The only thing you need to do is either remove the foam on the NZXT plate, or just flip it over like I done. It's a perfect fit like this, so no shim needed.

By "reference models" it means those with a reference PCB, not necessarily a blower cooler. I believe these are the only reference PCB models OcUK do, as well as all of the 'reference design' ones which are the blower style.

I ran it at stock, and then also tried a pretty aggressive profile where they were getting over 90%. Still quiet and it helped, but still hit 75 to 78 I think. Sounds like mine was possibly hotter than others... Not sure as I read different things contradicting each other all the time.

Could've been something like a bad bit of thermal paste or the heatsink not being screwed down properly... Oh well, too late to go through possible reasons now :p

MSI Reference 980Ti in SLI, with slightly custom cooling :).

Overclocking nicely too for stock versions, currently at 1,424MHz on the core @ 47C, not even touched the memory yet.

Heh yeah, I've seen other people with the same temps though and wasn't keen on taking it apart and possibly screwing things up.

On the post regarding G10 with the 6G... Yeah I've heard they go and the temps are ace. Saw some pics, maybe in the overclock forum on the 6G thread.
