Many reviews show the 4870 at 1920x1200 with 8xAA faster than the 280, now the 280 costs £305 for the cheapest, the 4870 costs £187, so if your playing at 1920x1200 your going to buy a slower card that also costs £118 more, LMFAO. :D

Btw i don't hate Nvidia, their cards are just not worth buying, anyone can see that.

Yeah it is, but the 4870 is faster in a lot more at that res than the 280.

Hiya LoadsaMoney, going by this review here, it's actually about even. If you then take into the price of the ATI Radeon 4870 and the Nvidia GTX 280 then it's very hard to actually recommend the Nvidia GTX 280 when you game at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 or higher. I would personally always choose the ATI Radeon 4870. :)

You may hate NV as much as Charlie at the Inq, but the 4870 is nowhere near as fast as you think it is. It's fast, but its not gonna take a GTX280.

Hello Boogle, the ATI Radeon 4870 actually does take on the Nvidia 280 GTX in some games. Have a look at this review here. :)

Heh, I already posted two reviews where the 4870 beat the 280 ;)

The points where the 4870 is faster, both cards are easily fast enough. Its the difficult games where the 4870 starts struggling - and in those, the 260 tends to suddenly catch up too, nullifying the price difference.

I've got a GTX 280 and 4870X2.

The GTX 280 is consistently fast, in some games the 4870X2 blows it out of the water even with 8xAA but yet in others I'm left scratching my head, I can only imagine the normal 4870 is as bad except you've only got half the power.

The 1gb 4870 loves AA.

Well I've ordered the 4870 1gig Powercolor jobby. Just opened up my computer though and I only appear to have the 1 power connector - whereas the 4870 requires 2. Can anyone direct me to what I need to buy? I'm a bit clueless in regard to cables and stuff - I don't have to buy a new PSU do I?

Just got the card, and unfortunately it doesn't come with an adapter :( I've had a rummage through my box of bits, and all I can find is a Compupack A001-W011 Rev B. Not really sure what it is, but its 2 x 4 pin sockets (although only 3 pins in each) into a 6 pin socket (which only seems to have 5 connections in it!). Is that any good?

since we're on the topic..

would a 8800gt play TF2 and CoH at that res, without AA, comfortably? want to get a new screen, but would like to hold onto this card for at least another 6 months/year

Can't speak for TF2 but I was running Company of Heroes at 1920x1200 with an 8800GTS 640meg and it seemed ok
