Car Insurance Question. 3rd Party vs. Comprehensive

I currently drive a R reg Astra which has done 168,000 miles so as you can imagine it has very little value in insurance terms.

My insurance is up for renewal in a month and I was thinking that there isn't much point in insuring this as comprehensive as if I do have an accident the value of my car will probably be lower than the excess. I was thinking of just insuring as third party.

Is there any pitfall with this that anyone can think of?

TPFT worked out cheaper for me on a £1000 car.
I too thought its not worth the extra on a low value car.
If you do go TPFT though make sure it includes legal expenses.
Some insurers will let you add windscreen cover for an extra fee.

Ok I will check whether it is cheaper to stick with Comp.

I will also check if Windscreen and legal is covered.

Anything else to check?

Thanks guys

As you'll basically have no intention to claim for any damage you do yourself it can be worth sticking a big excess on a comp policy. I used to do this when younger.

I've found higher excess doesn't necessarily equal lower premium, it actually can go up if you increase the excess. I guess after a certain point they realise you're using it like a tpft policy
