Hello,

Long story short.

I don't normally have the money for this kind of build, was knocked off motorbike and got money from insurance gonna buy a PC.. there!

So im totally new to this but i am a gamer and love to play most games.

(currently: everquest next landmark alpha/Rust/ will be playing elite dangerous and star citizen)

This is over my budget and from lack of exp i just put everything i think i needed.

Please can you handsome and clever gentlemen show me any obvious errors in my quest to the gaming euphoria!!

Welcome,

Is this a pre-built system or Building it yourself?

If this is just a gaming build you can make a few changes.

Firstly you won't need 16GB of RAM, get 8GB of 2000mhz+ RAM and that'll be great. :)

The PSU is OVER specced too, a 600W-650W PSU will be fine.

I'd also invest in a better CPU cooler, like the matterhorn or the 212,412..

+1 to Doomedspeed's advice.

Spend some of the savings mentioned above on a bigger SSD. 60gb isn't really big enough nowadays, I'd aim for at least 120gb.

Yeah you definitely want more than 60GB, I would even say that 120GB can start getting a bit small once you install windows, office, and a handful of big games, seeing as a lot of games are hitting 15 GB a pop these days!

Having said that I do have quite a few MMO's installed and that might be why I'm running low on space :p

As already said, if I was spending that much Id probably want a 250ssd, its surprising how quickly you fill it.

And yes ram prices are fairly high currently and 16gig is an overkill nice to have if you can get it cheap.

Good CPU and GPU though :) and will be a great system once its tweaked a little.

Oh if its a self build you can probably make a 4770k system for that price, or get a 4670K cheaper. I thought you were using the configurator and having it built.

16 gig overkill? fair enough, i currently only have 4gb of ddr2. 250gb sd sounds like a better idea that 60gb.. don't know what i was thinking really..

In acme's chair.
I have 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, my SSD only has 75GB left, and I quite often use more than 8GB of RAM, but most people won't.

It depends entirely on what the system will be used for.

So... What is your use-case? What will you be using the system for other than for gaming? Do you plan on running any VM's or using a RAM disk? Do you only want your OS on the SSD, or ALL of your programs as well like me? etc... :)

Anyways, I can't do a basket spec as I'm at work but here is an idea...

CPU: 4770K
Mobo: G1.Sniper Z87 (for the superb featureset at the pricepoint) otherwise a Z87-D3HP/UD3 etc
RAM - 8GB of 2666MHz TeamGroup LV (great value - unless of course you want/need 16GB)
SSD: 120/250GB Samsung 840 Evo (the default choice for price to performance to reliability at present)
HDD: HDD of whatever capacity you feel you need
GPU: 780/780TI/290/290X (read some reviews and use Anandtech Bench GPU14 and GPU13 to compare - I'd get a 780 personally)
PSU: 650W - 750W Superflower/Seasonic/Enermax (I'd personally get a 650W Golden Green - unless you want SLI/Crossfire in the future)
ODD: External! (I guarentee it will live in a drawer most of the time)
Case: Mostly personal choice, though some are better than others for build quality/airflow etc. DO NOT buy that INWIN shown above.
Cooling: A big air heatsink such as the NH-D14 or the equivelant from the likes of Phanteks, Thermaltake etc (I like the Silver Arrow B&W)

Ok here is my spec - a slightly cheaper alternative to the i7 builds above, also with a black/red theme if that might be your thing :) Case is not in stock until the end of the month but I think it looks very nice so included it anyway:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £359.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £191.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard with *FREE COOLERMASTER SEIDON 120V COOLER £163.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £149.99
1 x NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case - Black £94.99
1 x Corsair Dominator GT 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit with DHX Pro Connector (CMT8GX3M2A1866C9) **SPECIAL** £89.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £74.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £59.99
1 x Toshiba 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache - OEM (DT01ACA200) HDD £59.99
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-221LBK DVD Rewriter - OEM £14.99
Total : £1,275.89 (includes shipping : £12.50).

EDIT: Went with Windows 8.1 (non-pro) to save a bit, and it's faster than Windows 7 in terms of gaming. Also the mobo includes an AIO watercooling unit which should be ideal.
