£5 p/h ? It's not minimum but it's ok wage when you are 16 i guess.

What are the current rates of the national minimum wage?

There are three levels of minimum wage, and the rates from 1st October 2007 are:

* £5.52 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older
* A development rate of £4.60 per hour for workers aged 18-21 inclusive
* £3.40 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of compulsory school age.

Even if I was 16 you wouldnt see me working for £3.40 to do someones garden work. £5p/h sounds better. Or just a lump sum per day may sound more appealing.

Lol.. I'm 15 and have been earning £6.75 an hour :D However they told me they'd overpaid me after 3 months and took the last 3 weeks of my money! £600 down :( And they still owe me £100! Robbing idiots >_<

I was doing a 40 hour week aswell! on top of school lol. They took advantage :p

I think it's about £5 an hour average btw.

I was getting £300 a week when I was 16, was absolute heaven, granted I was on emergency tax code so was taking home just over £200 but still then I couldnt spend it all. Then when I left and got a new job at 18 I had a tax rebate of just under £1200. I was very lucky indeed.
