Roughly how much would it cost to drive 550 miles

I know engine size, driving style, road conditions etc play quite a large factor. So what car do you do drive and how much do you think it would cost you?

Fuel type will be petrol.

another rather odd question by ibot... :/

fiesta 1.25 if i drive keeping under 4000rpm (70mph is 4000rpm) i can get roughly 280 per tank (45litres)

so by my workings out i need 88litres which is £93 (1.06p for 95 down here)

Don't ask subjective questions and expect an objective answer. You will only get subjective answers.

i was trying to work out my MPG from my calculations but it seems i only get 23mpg the way im working out? i must have messed something up somewhere lol.

saying that 280miles from a tank isnt totally true..... its untill the petrol light goes on....

Surely that's awful economy from such a small car? It only costs 10p per mile in most small cars. You sure the 280 per tank is actually the full 45 litres? I expect thats probably about 30 litres

Obviously it depends a little on hills, speed, traffic, load etc but on a total motorway run in perfect conditions i'd expect between 500 and 550 miles out of my 54 litre tank of deisel.

a small petrol car should manage 400 out of a 45 litre tank quite easily under similar conditions.

completely useless answer but i could just about scrape that mileage on a tank in my diesel- £45ish.

as for petrol, it depends... my 205 1.0l used to be just as good on the juice but didnt have the tank range.

i bet you'd be looking at between £60-100 though depending on car.

Why just petrol?

If diesel then my 306td can do 550-600miles to a tank at 80mph so we'll say a 60 litre tankful and using veggie oil that would cost about £35

It would take my car under 2 tanks (probably not much under) so about £80 - £90 for me

In my car I could just manage it on a full tank if it was 99% Motorway.

So £72.

Usually get around 550 miles on 1 tank of mixed driving in my 120D so about 60 quid. If I'm a good boy and stay at 70 on the motorway I can get over 600.

I get about 30 miles per gallon.

So, given that fuel is £1.11 per litre round my way (V-Power ) it'll be 70 litres of fuel, which will be ~£78.

530d - if it was all A-roads and motorways, I'd use around 50 litres, which is about €56/ £40.

At 29mpg & 1.10p it would cost me £94.

At 32mpg & 1.10p it would cost me £85.

Depends on the roads

About £70 in petrol but that isnt the actual cost as youve got to factor in the wear and tear of the car, tax, insurance ect.
Ohh also if its all done in one trip dont forget 2 stops at services for food at £15 and 1 stop at McDonald's £3.89

It's not just the cost of fuel. It's the cost of wear and tear on the vehicle, i.e. tyres, engine components, oil etc...

Your engine likes you better than mine! Even on the motor way at a steady speed i would maybe, just maybe see 400 miles. Although tank size is maybe different?

yeah its untill the light goes on, so probably 30-35 litres. ive got 320 out of it before but i always fill up as soon as that light goes on.

problem really is its a city car and doing a constant 70mph @ 4000rpm does drain that fuel..... lol dam short gearing.
