Hi guys,

Has anyone had issues with driver/SST stability with the Saitek x52 joystick? I've tried numerous drivers and varying versions of SST with the same results. Regardless of what profile I use (whether an official or custom made) it would appear after several minutes of play or if further attempts are made to change a profile random crashes (freezes/hanging) occur which more or less render the entire set-up useless.

I can instantly tell when this occurs as although the MFD is responsive to changing modes via the stick, the time will freeze and I occasionally get random characters on the display.

Only a full reboot will restore functions but then only to have the same experience repeated as soon as I select a profile and begin to play again.

Currently I'm using driver 6.0.4.1 and SST 7.0.2.7 - Although I have also tried 6.6.6.9 and 7.0.10.6.

I get the issue on various games, although I am primarily concentrating on X3-TC.

Any thoughts, suggestions gratefully recieved.

Cheers, Paul.

Had zero issues with my x52 pro, will check what version software I'm using when I'm on that machine later.

I have a similar problem, in which at certain random times changing profile BSOD's.
Me, two friends, my other system on XP and a friends laptop all had this issue, too common for it to be something we're doing and something it just simply doesn't like :|.

However in particular, I had the same issue as you on the laptop, weird characters etc etc, it just didn't like TrackIR on it, disconnected the trackir and it worked fine.

Sorry I can't help :(

Thanks for the responses, could I ask what versions you're using for each component(driver and SST) and whether you're using a particular method to install? (I've read various forums posts where they've been installed under a compatibility mode (Vista SP1 etc).

It's quite frustrating, because it does initially work and then randomly just hangs (SST hangs) but I have yet to experience a BSOD.

It appears unplugging/plugging the unit clears/resets the issue temporarily, I guess perhaps I have a faulty product? (just my luck). I will attempt to install it on my laptop which is also running win7 x64 to see whether that (hopefully) eliminates or confirms that the issue persists win7 and/or faulty.

Cheers, Paul.

Hi, this is my first post on here, oh man I'm having some serious issues with the X52 pro!! After 2 days of trying to setup the controller, reading forums and ranting at the monitor screen (and my girlfriend), I found this thread and hoped someone would be able to help. Here are my setup details:
PC:
- Windows 7 64 bit
- Intel i5 Sandybridge
- 16GB RAM
- nVidia 570 GTX
- 1.5 TB HDD

Controller Hardware:
- Saitek X52 Pro
- Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals

The driver that came with the controller is old (v.5.7.x). Thinking there must be newer better drivers online I checked out the downloads page at the Saitek site and downloaded the latest version (v.6.x) and the newest SST software.

First install attempt it froze at the device detection phase. After waiting about 15 minutes for it to continue I tried to cancel it, no luck so I tried to end the program in the task manager, again no luck. I tried to end the process tree in the task manager, still no luck. I then tried to shut down the computer and it froze on the "shutting down" screen. I waited another 15 minutes but it failed to shut down so I had to do a hard reset. After the reset windows failed to load so I had to go through the startup recovery procedure that eventually restored my system to before the driver was installed.
Sweating slightly and never more glad to see my desktop image again, I cleaned out the registry using RegZooka and restarted my PC just to be sure everything was fine.

Seeing as the new drivers nuked my PC I decided to try the old ones that came with the x52 pro. It installed the drivers without freezing but it didn't seem to install DirectOutput correctly. After checking out a few forums I discovered that with Win7 64bit, there should be a Direct output folder in both "Program Files/Saitek/" and "Program Files (x86)/Saitek/" however there was not. Also when I tried to run the outputtest.exe I got the error "No DirectOutput devices found". So this meant I couldn't get the MFD working properly.

I thought I would try an experiment and install the more recent version of DirectOutput but leave the original drivers installed. This looked like it was going to work as the service was finally showing in the services list. However, I still couldn't get the outputtest.exe to work I was still getting the same error.

I bought this controller to replace my fading Logitech Force 3D so I can get back into playing some flight sims, but so far I've had nothing but trouble. I can get the very basic functions working with the older drivers, however the MFD just refuses to work! I would have thought that downloading the newest drivers and software should make things better, not damn near kill my computer!

Has anyone else had these issues with the new driver or am I alone?

Finally figured out the root of the issue on my PC. Turns out to be the USB port I plugged the controls into. The only free ports I had left were USB3, once I swapped them over to UBS1 magically things started working (although I'm getting the random character error on the MFD now).
I tried out FSX and the MFD worked...Kinda, still with the character bug.

I will try out the latest drivers again, maybe it wont nuke my PC now they are plugged in the right ports?!?! Fingers crossed!

Eames, which Thrustmaster did you get? I was looking at the Warthog HOTAS but that was serious money!
