The first one looks completely overkill. Surely the second one (which I've seen before) would be fine with some airflow over it?
Might do the second one once I have the ramsinks I have around somewhere.....

Yeah i was thinking of the 2nd one myself. Got a pack of zalman ramsinks upstairs somewhere that would be perfect for the job.
the reliability of these cards has got something to do with the voltage regulator.

some other people also seem to have the problem. if the voltage regulator overheats it permanently fails and the card becomes flaky thereafter.
maybe some 7900gt owners could take a look at thier cards to see how hot the voltage regulator is getting.

I can't reach mine because my Zalman NB cooler is in the way. Which s annoying.... as thats blooming hot in this weather too.
