so i might have bought an asus 2011 dual socket board and i have a few e5 2670 laying around........ what is the best use of this hp?

We have the Boinc Pentathlon starting on the 5th of June, any help there would be appreciated. There's also Formula boinc which is an on going yearly competition. We have threads for both.

Finally got a bios that works so build progressing.
Brackets to hold the rads built and fitted.
I got the wrong size pipe for my fittings so waiting for that to arrive and the water block mounts need trimming to miss the ram and heat sinks but nothing impossible to overcome:rolleyes:

You still running this monster? love to see more pics, tut for leaving the thread unfinished lol

Here's my main rig
Thought I'd take a pic as I am just about to upgrade the CPUs in it.

Fom what to what?

From 2 x E5-2695v3 ES 28c/56t 2.5 ghz
To 2 x E5-2696v3 oem 36c/72t 2.8 ghz

The only downside now is that it won't play well on Windows, anything over 64 threads and the NUMA assignment is messed up, I either have to switch HT off or run it in Linux, which I'll try to do most of the time.

The original plan was to build another machine. I ordered the chips, *then* checked RAM prices  they have doubled since I last bought them, the Corsair 64 GB kit that I already have now costs £690! Also the same MB is now £100 dearer. Put me right off, so I have just upgraded for now. I'll sit the the 2695s Xeons and if prices fall I build a rig out of them, if not they'll go on the bay.

No One's posted in here for a year so thought i'd bring it back to life with a post of my mess. Three pi's crunching seti 24/7, with another pi providing access to a wireless router and thus the inet. Once i get time i'll have that one pi controlling the three of them rather than ssh'ing in each time. And once the nylon spacers turn up, I'll build them up into a stack to total 7 crunching pi's all with a power draw of less than one basic pc. And most importantly i'm rather enjoying it!

Also got my desktop that crunches through Seti at an incredible rate compared to a pi! i3 at 3.7Ghz, 2nd hand Asus gtx 660ti, and a second one has just turned up, which i'm looking forward to setting up when i get a chance:

Thank Goodness it now looks nicer! Nylon spacers turned up, finished building it up, got 6 operational and crunching, with 2 more to be finished.

Just need a thicker piece of wood to raise the fans higher, and i've now got a second 660Ti in the desktop which is chomping through wu's rather pleasantly.

Excuse the untidy wires, had to re-jig the fans!

Did you not get any dust with those setups ?
I've got some spare I can let you have for the cost of postage.

No major dust problem at the moment, had to take the grills off the fans after a week or so to clean those, but the pi's seem okay, time will tell!
Bless ya, much appreciated, I may take you up on that offer, better than sitting in a cupboard!

I also got BoincTasks running on the head pi using Exagear's version of wine, so i can see what all the pi's are up to without logging in to each one, woohoo!

Yeah, it won't all fit in the cupboard :(

You must be running under a different ID to your name here as that ID on Seti (from 2001) has 0 points

Yeah, I tried to restart my old account but it must have been attached to a long gone email ad, I was never a big hitter so it didn't matter I started a fresh. I'm under 'stormduck', currently 435 slowly creeping up from the bottom.

I'm really impressed with the little thing. It's been running for over 6 months now faultlessly. I've pulled two pi's away for other duties so there's five still running. All of them combined uses 1kw a day, and the longest running one has accumulated 132,000 credits. It's not breaking records but it's still accumulating!
