X99 memory speed?

Got a nice m-atx Asus X99m-WS, and an i7 6800K. For memory, I was looking at the Corsair Dominator 32gb 3200MHz, but after looking at my motherboard spec a bit more and X99 in general, 2400 seems to be the highest supported.

Now is that just what is guaranteed to run, but it will more than likely run upto your memory speed? There's various memory speeds exceeding 2400 in the BIOS. I may just get the kit and try it, and if it doesn't I may trade it for a slower kit with tighter timings, depending if there's much of a difference in price.

I know there's not a lot of real world difference between 2400C14 and 3200C16, but it feeds my OCD to just have everything running at it's rated capacity nicely :D

all depends on the silicon lottery i struggle like hell to get my memory past 2600mhz, but ultimately depends how good of a manual overclocker you are because i've found XMP to be a bit useless

Have you checked on the Asus website for the specs of the board? I have just read "4 x DIMM, Max. 64GB, DDR4 3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory *1" for the x99-m WS.

It won't make any difference what memory speed you get tbh, ddr3 1600mhz performs the same as ddr4 3200mhz in gaming. I use 32gb ddr4 3000 myself and honestly it makes no difference.

There is a slight performance boost to be had.

High memory clocks may limit your cpu overclock.
I think this is mainly dictated by your cpu.

I wouldn't buy really expensive overclocking ram unless I was only interested in benchmarks.
If the 3200 is an ok price then it will be fine.

I have 3000 and there is a slight gain over 2400 in some games but it's not much.

I'm not planning on over clocking my 6800 at all, I nearly bought a Xeon to that end :p

I don't do a lot of gaming, certainly nothing to bother if some ram would score me an extra 1-2fps, mostly just rocket league sometimes something a bit more demanding.

There isn't a huge difference in price, but if there's not much in performance difference either I may as well get the cheapest.

Will get some and update results here :)

I've just brought G.Skill F4-3200C14Q-32GTZ amazing memory running at 14-14-14-34 1T 1.35v on my Asus Rampage 10 X99 no problems, I had a nightmare with the corsair CMU32GX4M4C3000C15R...

I shruggle to get past 2666mhz long term, I from time have been able to hit 3200mhz with my 3200mhz ram but even after a few days of it being fine the OC never reliably holds, I ether get boot issuse reliblity issse after while :(

I have a friend with Asus x99 deluxe and a 5930k how can hit 3000mhz+ fine

Its prob my CPU (its not a great clocker overall) that's weak since my MB is a 8pack record breaking hand me down lol

Bugger I just bought the corsair as well :(

seem a good offer for the 3400 4 x 8gb sticks for £171.

Oh well, if i have issues they can go back :(

I got them to work with the xmp but the voltages where to high for my liking and when I did adjusted any voltage it failed to boot, or BSOD 10 secs into windows..G.Skill worked straight out the box 3200Mhz 14-14-14-34 1T no XMP needed..

Goodluck

They will be! Oh and they are B-die on those, so if you are into any sort of benchmarking limit maxmem to 4gb and tweak to your hearts content, not gonna reach the dizzy heights of a z170 platform but timings will be able to be tightend considerably.

G skill recommends not going past 2800mhz on x99 at least with a 5820k anyway when i asked them, i went with a 32GB 2800mhz kit. Only swapped because i got them for 150 quid after the rainforest refunded me about 50 quid difference, cost me about the same price last year for a 16GB 2400mhz crucial kit that it replaced. Practically a free upgrade for me :D

Strange. Why say that when they will run faster than that. Oh well fingers crossed I get mine working at 3200.

WIll be swapping my cpu later this year anyway.

As day just posted on the other thread the 3200 work straight away with no issues at 3200 speed with a 5820.

This sounds more like a limitation of the board in question or the ability of the user (not being personal and assuming the kit is binned at 3200).

Almost all X99 CPU should be capable of 3200mhz on memory providing the board is equipped with the OC socket, the sticks are capable and the system is dialled in correctly.

Boot issues are memory training related, so the memory stability is too conditional to pass POST stress tests. These subjects are really hazy for a lot of the guys here. It's difficult to know who to help or correct and who not to sadly.

agreed with silent, more often than not its the board. I had a Gigabyte SOC force board, overclocking champion etc.

but with some memory with xmp enabled it wouldn't boot yet you could manually set the same memory settings as xmp or better and it ran like a dream.
