A friend of mine asked me to build him a PC that could run modern games and especially Star Wars ones well for a 1080P resolution monitor/TV.

Budget was tight but I think I cracked it with new parts and some used parts.

The Parts

This is the list of new parts purchased.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £159.22
(includes shipping: £11.70)

And used I got hold of,

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £394.87
(includes shipping: £9.90)

The CPU was £110

The R9 380 was £95

RAM was £25

So all in the total cost is £377, I supplied a random 120mm fan for free for the front of the case.

The Parts and the Build

So starting with the case which is effectively £6 as the PSU is £42.95 by itself.

Not much to see, its clean looking and it has two USB2.0 ports, power ON/OFF, Restart, and audio jacks along with power/HDD LED.

You can fit a 90mm to the rear.

It is what it is....a cheap case.

Comes with a front cover adapter and a bag of screws etc.

Top mount for an SSD.

Front comes away and leaves the cables/buttons behind which I like.

A 120mm fan just clips in.

Fan facing down to exhaust hot rising air.

DSC_0048_zpsjkdq3rze.jpg~original

A H110 based board, it has the basics needed and will take an i7.

CPU in.

DSC_0054_zpsmbbginfu.jpg~original

It is a used item so lets clean the CPU and heatsink surface.

DSC_0056_zpskzlfqymi.jpg~original

Slap some AS5 on.

DSC_0060_zpskekgcfpq.jpg~original

Fit the stock heatsink and the RAM.

DSC_0063_zps3xwgnhtw.jpg~original

Take the SSD.

DSC_0064_zpshx7o9riv.jpg~original

And fit it to the 2.5" drive bay plate found in the top part of the case.

DSC_0062_zpsstoapacd.jpg~original

Fit the board/CPU/RAM combo and screw it in and add the cables.

You can see why I got the fan cable extension, otherwise the cable from the fan wont reach.

Grab a GFX card.

DSC_0075_zpsynuknsi2.jpg~original

R9 380 4GB Strix, 2 months old..........nice.

DSC_0076_zpsrjrfy4pn.jpg~original

A bit bloody wide, will it fit?

DSC_0078_zpswj1y4vg7.jpg~original

Removing the 3.5" drive plate it fits easily.

DSC_0081_zpsptlmkhty.jpg~original

Put the plate back in, boy that is a close fit, but it fits.

DSC_0090_zpsnibhkojy.jpg~original

A few well placed cable ties.

And she is ready.

Install Windows 10 and the drivers for the chipset, LAN, GFX, Audio etc.

Nice price for an awesome build. I Just finished one for a friend too using the same case and PSU. Great case for the money. Would buy another just for modding. Could get a 240mm rad in the front no problem ;)

Smashing wee build mate, some no bad numbers there too. My only complaint would be the cable management. Im not saying its bad!! No no no, It's like you said, a cheep case, whatca gonna do? But its also a full panel so saving graces there

Top draw, getting a rig built by Stulid, nice!

I was hoping to get a glimpse of him, a reflection or something. Turns out he is stealthy, appears to be non-reflective, even my CSI microsoft Paint skills can not detect an image! Dohh!

Nice work. Better than my system and half the price. Did you get the used items from the members market? Is it fairly active on there? Wanting an i5 just waiting to get past the 1000 post mark.
