Looking to replace a £1500 pc with a media box

Hi guys! I built a HTPC a while ago and i must have been drunk or something because it cost 1500 quid and featured a top end i5, sli r9 290s and 16gb ram! Its been a great plex box and streaming box for ages but with steam streaming working great and the acquisition of a HTC vive im planning to repurpose it as my VR RIG.

So im looking for an alternative. What im wondering, is there any reasonably priced windows 10 box out there that will run plex, web streams etc while outputting uncompressed surround sound to my amp (the way an AMD card would) via HDMI and not perform like dog poop? Ive looked at NUCs but im thinking cheaper again like a chinese box?

Ideas?

Just use a NUC, no hassle and good support, alternatively look at Shield TV.
