Hi

I have a spare 2.5" HDD. I'm want to add it to my PC so I can save photos/videos onto it. This will then release some space on my main HDD.

I plugged it into a SATA cable and found a spare power plug which I also attached to the HDD.

After doing this I found that my PC was very sluggish, takes longer to get into Windows (icons take longer to appear) and the booting splash screen pops up twice for some reason.

Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong?

Hey there, bushmins.

It's quite common for a faulty drive to cause similar issues with a system. I'd suggest that you make sure that it's properly connected and give it a try with a different SATA port and cables, or a different computer, to see if the issues still persist.

You could also download its manufacturer's diagnostic tool and run the tests, to see what's the situation with the HDD.

Hope that helps.
