Hi all,

I currently have a Samsung 840 Pro SSD 256gb but with only around 20gb left available I am looking at replacing this OS drive.

Not sure if I should go 500gb odd or 1tb? Samsung Evo or Pro or some other model, as I simply have not kept in the loop. Any pointer son what I should be looking at?

Motherboard is an Asus Z87 Maximus VI Gene, I have a 4tb storage drive so only the OS drive to replace.

Get a 1Tb as my steam quickly filled my 500gb and have to delete stuff which is annoying.

I'm looking at the sandisk 960gn for 185

Performance wise, SSDs are a much of muchness nowadays. Personally I would wait for the 960GB sandisk drive to drop to £150 as it frequently does and grab it then. Set it up as your game install drive and keep using the 840 Pro as your boot drive.

Best is to separate game and Windows docs/downloads/music/etc from the main OS SSD and get a second large but average SSD for those.

Cheers guys.

My current 256gb drive has only got a couple of games on it, so still thinking of a new OS drive. the old 256 will be donated to the kids PC.

I had thought of a seperate SSD for the games, so will keep an eye out for the Sandisk and any price drop, but still want a 512gb or 1tb main OS drive, as they just seem to continually fill up.

Trying to justify performance versus cost of something like the Pro versus Evo for my current system. Sadly prices seem pretty high right now for SSD's.

An update.

I got the Sandisk Ultra II 960gb drive for £170, and as I can save 50gb on my current OS drive I think I can wait a little longer before buying a new OS drive.

Many thanks for the recomendations, helped me save some cash!

Well installed my second SSD today, uninstalled the two games I had on the OS drive, then proceeded to uninstall a few more programs and unused apps.

After a day of trimming fat, removing all AMD drivers and folders, deleting old files and unplayed games etc, my drives now look quite trim, 110gb free on the pro, 2TB free on my HGST 4TB drive, only re-installed a couple of games on the 960gb drive, expect that to fill up quick if I am not frugal.

All seems well and good though. Happy bunny!
