How many PCIe slots does your motherboard have?

On my Gigabyte, the top two (16x and 8x) are linked but the third one on the bottom (x4) isn't, it's linked to the x1 slots, so has no effect on the graphics card.

So ideally you will be using either a x1 slot or x4, which won't affect the speed. However, if you have to use a x8 slot then yes, it will bring your graphics card down to x8 but that still shouldn't make much, if any, difference to the speed.
