its for a friend so i think i can convince him to get new peripherals at a later time.

However he would like a new monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. So if possible to get within £500 that would be great.

That's a tough target when including monitor too. This is the best i can do.
larger storage drive but slightly more expensive and hopefully still some good speed from having a SSD cache.

Add cheap kb and mouse combo of your liking.

Nice, yeah might be worth dropping down to the 4300 and saving some money.
That monitor only has a single VGA input. I'd look at something like this (or save up a little longer and get a much, much better monitor for an extra £20 or so.

You could take out the SSHD and put in these two with the increased budget. It would give more than double the space and improved system response but at the cost of slightly more complicated configuration and storage management over time. Install the OS onto the SSD with commonly used apps and use the HDD for storage. Up to you.
