I can remember my mother doing Sardines on toast when I was young. It wasn't like that...

Toast bread under a grill - both sides.

Open a tin of sardines (in tomato sauce). Empty it. Take out any bones if possible, and any nasty looking bits. Mash well. Spread on toast.

Lightly brown under the grill.

Put on a good shake or three of vinegar. Sprinkle with salt. Serve.
