Currently running an amd 1090t at 4ghz with an r9-290.
Want to upgrade sometime soon, was considering getting a 6700k, but the benchmarks aren't showing it as that much better than the 4690k. I mostly game at 1080p and want a smooth 60 fps (current cpu bottlenecks my gpu in some games)

Keeping in mind I'm gonna have to buy a new motherboard anyway and I want 16gb of ram (currently 8gb, so for the 4790k, I'm just gonna buy another 8gb). Also, I don't care about on board graphics, as I won't be using it.

4690k + mobo + ram will be roughly £300
6700k + mobo + ram will be roughly £500

Would it be worth going for the 6700k or would the price difference not be worth the jump?

Ive recently been going through some major deliberations on whether to get a 4970k - 6700k - 5820k - 5930k. 4970k was the winner for me.

At the end of the day, ive came to the conclusion that if all your doing is gaming, then the 4970k is more than enough. The cost of the newer chipsets is not justifiable if all you
do is play games, browse internet, watch films ect. Future proofing seems to be an usual excuse to splash out, but no matter what reason you give yourself, its normally not worth it.
Unless you already have one, get a SSD. you will see more of a performance gain with a good ssd then the differance from a 4970 to a 6700

I've been thinking about it and I may just go for a 4690k.

Not going to use hyper threading for anything and the performance gains from skylake aren't worth the extra money. I think 4690k will be perfect for my needs. Which is mostly gaming.

Thanks for the help
