Hey folks,

In the process of replacing all spotlight bulbs with LED versions in our new house, however I noticed on the bathroom spotlights, the housing /facia part states

"12V MR16 Max 50W IP65" yet the bulbs are GU10, and the connection wires are GU10 - is this ok? Seems bizarre that the housing would say one thing, but the bulbs be another...

The other question is, the kitchen ones say "MR16 12V MAX 50W" if I replace the bulbs on there with LED do I need a transformer or something like that? Or can I just swap the bulbs with, say, something like these

https://www.ledhut.co.uk/spot-lights/mr16-led-bulbs/6-watt-mr16-led-spotlight-40w-replacement.html

I know they say 40W I figure that would be enough as there are 6 spotlights in the kitchen...

Final question (sorry!) can anyone identify where I can get a replacement part for this, but in chrome?

I unscrewed it from the housing, just wondered if it can be inter-changed, or whether I would need an entire unit?

Thanks in advance! :D

The lamp holders are very similar for GU10, so it's not uncommon to find them in the MR16 holders, check they are earthed (if needed) as 12v lighting doesn't usually require one where as 240v does. I think 12v is perferable for bathrooms for technical/safety reasons that I'm sure someone else will explain.

Swapping out MR16 Halogen for LED will usually require a new transformer. The lower LED load will will either cause them to flicker or just not work at all. For the hassle of replacing the transformers as well it's just as easy to replace the fitting with an intergrated unit. I bought a load of these to replace some MR16s http://www.collingwoodlighting.com/en/products/downlights-halers-range/item/h2-pro-550-uk Not the cheapest, but I'm really pleased with them and as they are 12volt the 2 core wiring from the MR16's is all that required to wire them up. Simple job, they even do a tool less install version with a junction box already fitted for the very lazy! http://www.collingwoodlighting.com/en/products/downlights-halers-range/item/h2-pro-550-t-uk

It's worth mentioning that if you are replacing a bathroom one over a shower then you will need a shower/ip rated fitting.
