I'm about a third in on my replay and all I can do is reiterate my previous thoughts. This game had the best gameplay ever imo. It has the best ever risk/reward hands down and that is something a lot of games get wrong nowadays. This time around I am finding the story a little deeper too but it is still miles off what you would hope for in a Metal Gear game.

Also only just realised I played the whole game offline at release because of some kind of problem with long load times, so never got any challenge task rewards at all!

Overall I can't help but feel a bit sad though... It does feel unfinished, and I just find myself wishing Kojima had been able the game give us the game he wanted to.

This should have been the best game ever made imo

Yep, it is an amazing game, one of the titles I have put the most hours into this year bar Witcher 3. Last chapter was such a mess though IMO, repeat missions was such a cheap way of getting the count up personally. First chapter was brill though. Opening elements was like being on an Acid trip :p

Can't believe this game came out this time last year! All those pre-release trailers, MGS marathon Twitch streams, replaying through all the old games in anticipation, hype threads, etc. I remembering waking up on the dot at 6 a.m. I believe just this a shot ASAP and get a taste of what V actually was :o I think the game plays great, some of the missions can get somewhat repetitive if you don't force yourself to shake things up, and the story line... well we all know how that turned out by now :D Still a fantastic game imo, but there's always that sense of "what could have been" whenever I think back. Basically didn't touch MGO3 and barely interacted with all the FOB stuff, just wasn't all that interested personally.

Still waiting for nuclear disarmament over here though... I know that it will most likely just be that cut-scene which has been already data-mined plus that "Chapter 3 - Peace" title card as some meta-narrative, but there's always that slight glimmer of hope that it'll potentially be something more. But definitely not getting my hope up for anything, and who know if it will even happen anytime soon 'cause the system is so fundamentally flawed atm :D

There is just so much attention to detail in the game. I was just staking out an outpost, as there was a soldier with A++ in research walking about, he was standing next to 3 other guys and they were having a conversation, not only was the conversation about something that happened earlier based on how I completed the mission, which awesome(I blew up a machine without being seen and they were taking about whether it was an accident or not), half way through two of them started sniffing the air, then they all rushed towards me as they could smell me because I hadn't showed in a while!

My dream would be for Konami to have a rush of blood and let Kojima have the rights to the series so he could finish it...

Also I wonder if plans had worked out if we would have seen anything else happen on Motherbase? You could easily fit an entire game on it once it is completed...or at least a chapter.

Spin watched an online video and I think I've been playing it wrong!!! Will give it another go sneaking more, no need to actually kill anyone!

It is primarily a stealth game, but the gameplay is incredibly varied in terms of how you play it. You can go in all guns blazing if you want, but it is just as viable to go through the entire game without being seen, let alone killing anyone!

In my game, I play stealthily, but if I'm seen I'm not afraid to mix things up a bit. Earlier on I had a mission to kill 3 enemies. Instead I knocked them all out and extracted them. Now they work for me. Another time I had to assassinate someone, tired to sneak in and extract him but was seen and I ended up blowing up the car he was in with a rocket launcher as he was trying to escape!

Also I have my helicopter playing Ride of The Valkeries on loud speaker whenever I call it in sometimes I call in am airstrike just for the hell of it. Epic!

I'm having a go at a few fob missions now. They are a great idea. Hard though!

I just finished chapter one. It is brilliant. Really enjoyed this second playthrough. Maybe the game would have been better finishing there is though tbh. They must have known they couldn't finish the game.

My opinion of the game has gone up... And it was already very high.

Wowwwww this game is tough and fun! I've no idea how to play MGS as I've not played one since Sons of Liberty back in the day (which I LOVED).

The intro was 2 hours long!!!! Finally able to select a few basic missions and mess around. I want to remove the slow motion crap but feel that it's best left on until I get used to the game.

Oh, had to use a FOV editor to make it playable. MUCH better now.

What's the difference between post-processing and effects on high and very high? I went back to this game today to try 4K DSR and it looks glorious but I can't max it on a single 1070 so I dropped those two down a notch. I know post-processing encapsulates a lot of different settings in Fox Engine e.g. AA and the quality of motion blur.

So this is a bit annoying, the servers being down makes my cash go from like 1.5m to -600k . Have had to stop playing as I dont want to start loosing staff due to low morale.

I was really enjoying it until this happened, hope its a one off and works again when its back online.

Earlier on I had a mission to kill 3 enemies. Instead I knocked them all out and extracted them. Now they work for me.

I love this aspect to the game. The joy when you scan a soldier and he has some sweet stats . Then you need to work out how to extract him from the middle of a compound surrounded by worthless scrubs.

As you have completed the game there might be something you can answer for me.

I unknowingly just missed a mission (mission 11) where you are under fire from Quiet. I didnt even know it was a mission and thought I had to just leg it past her, but then when i saw the next mission pop up I googled it and it said I should have fought her and then extracted her to be part of my team. Just wondering if I have screwed up or is there still a way to get her on my team later on? Or could I redo the mission after I finish mission 12?

Also I rescued a dog in mission 4 and have only seen it once since. Is there a way to bring that on mission at mission 12, or is that later?

With regard to Quiet. You don't necessarily need her in order to finish the game, however having her on your staff opens up some VERY interesting missions and somewhat emotional plot lines that ultimately lead to a big reveal at the end of the game. You'd be better off replaying chapter 11 just to get her imo.

in addition to above, the dog will join you eventually, and yes replay the Quiet mission. With regards to money, I wouldn't worry about it. I played the whole game offline first time round, though I did miss the mp which was actually pretty great(the fob stuff)

The game is a lot longer than you think so don't worry things will come!

I've never played any of these games. Are they worth looking at given that the usual type of stuff I'll play is Witcher 3, DA:O, GTAV, Just Cause 2, Fallout 3 etc?

Argh, I have replayed mission 10, 3 times now. Trying to get the transport specialist. The last 2 times I definitely extracted all 3 prisoners but only got 2/3 at the end of the mission .

It's not really anything like the games you listed, but if you like stealth games like Hitman you might like this. You can play it all guns blazing, but I find it a lot more rewarding playing like an assassin.

My main criticism would be that the setting is very dull. I'm not a big fan of games set in the middle east as its just rocks and sand everywhere. I'd have preferred it to be set somewhere with a bit of variation.

Like yourself, I'm more into gta v, witcher 3, fallout etc, so I wasn't sure if I'd like this. However, seeing as how I got it for free with my gpu, I gave it a go. Several hundred hours later and it stands as one of my favourite games of all time. Of course it's totally different to the aforementioned, but its nevertheless a great game. The stealth mechanics are unparalleled and the story great, albeit somewhat contrived.

Likewise. The desert setting was pretty bland.
