So in about a month and a half, I need to get a "lightweight" laptop which is thin i'd say and easy to carry around, as its for my girlfriend for university.
But it needs to be strong enough for photo/film editing and run at a fast speed.

I was thinking to custom build order an i5 with 8gb ram and 200+ gb ssd, is that too little or too much? Or are there sales to buy ready ones already? Or should I go down the custom route.

Whats more price effective i guess

The only devices i can think of are surface book and some mac books pro which come with the GPU or something like Lenovo Y50. What is the budget you are looking at ?

It will be difficult to get something in that price which doubles as a photo/film editing rig , perhaps some one who is on an i5 without a GPU can comment if the performance is acceptable.

What defines as photo/film editing?

Is your girlfriend doing a degree in Photography/Film, or is she just wanted to edit some pictures after a day out every now and again?
