Big hole built in desk?

I bought a flatpack desk recently and it's been great, but there's a circular hole that's a couple of inches across and it has some black plasticy thin breakable surface on it. Does this have a purpose? I'm assuming it might be to mount a monitor into or something but I've looked online and can't really find much about it. Not really a big deal but I was just curious what it's for.

A picture would be helpful but it sounds like its one of those holes where you remove the plastic and it's used for cable routing.

It's for cabling.

Think they make pop-up power/data sockets to fit - now that's cool

You can also get monitor mounts to fit in them. But their primary purpose is for cable routing as mentioned.
