How are you finding the performance of the 980m? I'm in the process of deciding which gaming laptop to buy but not sure whether to opt for the 980m or full 980.

Its an amazing laptop and runs most games at highest /ultra settings , I bought mine as a refurb unit for a very good price ;). I also bought the external GPU amplifier to run my external 980ti graphic card and It runs amazing at 4k with the newest drivers :D

The internal 980m runs at about 80% of the external 980gtx , using the amplifier and the 980ti it runs allmost as quick as the same card in my desktop pc :)

I've got a Clevo gaming laptop, desktop 4790k & 980m8Gb.

But good luck keeping this thread open, as the last thread that chatted about performance laptops not sold here, got closed :(

Thanks.

I'm really tempted by one of these with the 4K screen, I've just got to justify the cost to myself! I'm sure it'll take a few years for VR games to really get good anyway..

Is the Alienware R2 (or, I think R3 now) capable of running Oculus?

Absolutely certain it can as my Alienware 17 980m runs the DK2 with very good frame rates , also the amplifier helps even more :D

I made sure to include my homely comforts, for realism. :)

I feel a disclaimer to see them in their natural habitat is appropriate. It's nice to see how people actually them use them, since I imagine many are second machines.

I use mine to socialise with the family (currently in bed) :D

I have the Alienware 17 R3 that also has the 980m in 8gb form. I have yet to find a game that I can't max out. In a few years time when games catch up I will probably switch over to a graphics amplifier or change out the graphics card myself.

Well if we're counting external GPUs..

(I've got a proper keyboard and mouse now)

and the case is a WIP, CNC cut the fan holes but not got the power wiring done yet as it's very tight for space

Does the job, and runs my DK2 nicely.

Handles the games I play with ease and covers required desktop duties too. Had it a while now and no complaints.

I also have one of these that I use for reviewing but tbh it rarely gets used now.
