We're after a couple of laptops for work of which we are able to spec up ourselves, we have some basic requirements and I've manage to find some suitable examples... here are our requirements:

  • 15" screen
  • Intel i5 or i7 - as powerful as possible
  • SSD - preferably 256GB
  • 8gb RAM
  • USB 3.0
  • Around or under 2kg
  • Easy on the eye
  • Typical office desktop software use, limited multimedia, no gaming.

As there there won't be any gaming I'd prefer to spend the money on processing power/SSD/Screen size etc. rather than gfx devices that will never be used.

We normally buy Dell but are considering other options (as we don't feel like we get value for money) such as the Toshiba Satellite range, but tbh, not sure what ranges we should be looking at for this money and these requirements.

Suggestions welcome.

We're seriously considering this - Toshiba Satellite P50-C-18M - for £799

Can anyone suggestion anything better or have an opinion on that laptop?

Anyone any experience here? Or am I overthinking it? Or are all laptops these days just pretty much the same?

The zenbooks look nice for general use. Good looking ultrabook, lightweight and you can get the i7 with 256gb ssd etc in your budget.
