New phone for July wanted. Spec inside

I've been having a good think and have updated my wish list for a phone

I'd really like a good Camera and waterproof submerged (accidentally). I've seen some beautiful bird shots out kayaking and rowing and can't take my dslr in with me. So this would be great
Due to the above a bright screen would be good. Even if it washes out the colours at high brightness
Good colours at normal brightness

5-5.5 inches as I use it for satnav and videos a lot

I really do want stereo front facing speakers. I'd settle for good rear single . I really do not want bottom firing single speaker

For those who know my username. Yep, an notification Rgb led would be nice (not a must)

I really really want good battery life, but if quick charge is available I'll compromise on the mAh. 3000+ with 1080p ideal to help this

sony z5
battery is only 2900mah and quick charge 2 , but it covers everything else you want.

The Sony does look to have ticked all the boxes

The Samsung misses a few but seems to be better in what it has
Omitting stereo speakers
And much much more expensive

I didn't know either of these were water proof

The Samsung has the much better camera and screen. And overall performance. I also put my money on the S7 to be better supported with updates.

not that bothered by updates

it may be too much.
can see the z5 for much less than the s7E (i think the s7 is too damn ugly)

this is the pickle im in
the z5 is cheaper and has stereo speakers, whereas the s7E has better screen/cam but no stereo speakers and more cost

looked at sonys new X series. seems a downgrade to me!

The S7 Edge is the one to go for,much better battery life too but as you have found costly.

What about a Nexus 6P?

A decent set of headphones would be better than any onboard speaker, if you omit stereo speakers you'll have a lot more options?

Nexus 6p is a bit on the big side. And from what I gather hasn't got that good a dac?

I don't always want headphones (nor do I have that good a pair). But yeah I agree it is a bind.

So far is between these two phones, and I don't think I can stomach the cost of the s7E. Not for a phone

S7 if you can afford it. I'm moving to that from the Z5c I currently have.

Speakers on the Z5 are atrocious.

Turn the volume up (Not even to a high level) and the whole phone starts vibrating.
Too quiet too...

Decided on the s7E
Swore I'd never have another Samsung phone after Samsung Galaxy nexus

Hoping the camera kit will be good.

Still not sure if I've made the right choice.

Mainly better screen, battery and camera won over stereo speakers and nled
I also find z phones uncomfortable to hold

S7 has nLED.

The S7 is best the selling Android flagship for a reason.

I decided to go for the edge because I have an s6 for work and it isn't the most exciting looking
It was really the camera that sold me. The pictures in low light look amazing

By S7 I also meant S7e too as they have basically the same specs bar screen and battery.

The battery was a massive plus being a massive battery.
The screen size is just right.
The only reason to go with the Z5 was the speakers and cost.

I'm looking forward to resigning the Motorola back to the status of backup phone

xperia x seems to be spot on to what you are looking for.

Sony has a much better record than Samsung?

It's too late now. I've bought a galaxy s7 edge now.
I could always check out the xperia x. Hardly heard anything about it
