At last a thread for the growing trend of vaping. Feel free to discuss and review your hardware and flavours or give tips on mixing up your own juice.

Glossary

Vaping can be confusing with all the jargon flying about, so to help you get to grips with the gear, this link has all the info you'll need to navigate this thread

Choose your juice
As for liquids, it's very much a personal taste. I don't vape many tobacco flavours these days as they all taste like cigarettes smells in the packet (kind of raisin-y), but most starters will want something familiar so ask in the thread for advice on flavours from the guys who've tried them. Generally you can pick up a month's supply of premade juice for about £15 depending on the brand and website. Browse around the websites and read the descriptions to get an idea for what's there, but it's all trial and error. For a starter, I suggest about 11mg to 18mg strength juice, just until you find what suits you. Buy small amounts (10ml) at first until you find something you really like.

Lots of starter kits, and reasonably noob friendly with lots of videos explaning/demonstrating kit, but usually quite a bit more expensive than other sites.

There are loads more, but will add them later.

I don't vape. Have no clue what it's about. But I'll be interested to follow as I'm a heavy smoker, so anything that may reduce that and still give me my nicotine I want to know more about.

I started it to cut down on cigs and to save time at work, but ended up preferring it to smoking. That and its way cheaper :) i'll post up some more basic info in the op when I get home

Is it less killy than normal smoking?

FAR less. My smoker's cough disappeared in about a week, can breathe, smell and taste MUCH better. It doesn't sting your eyes or cling to clothes etc. like smoke -- you can literally blow the vapour anywhere, which some of my non-smoker friends find amusing when they fancy a whiff of whatever flavour I'm using.

No full clinical trials have been performed yet in terms of long-term risk, so of course there's always a potential unseen danger factor there. However, in terms of vaping vs. tobacco, it's already been scientifically levied by a reputable source as several magnitudes safer than smoking.

Glad this thread has opened, I was thinking of doing one myself. I am truly a convert! I smoked 10-15 Marlboro Lights a day, every day (sometimes 20+ when out on the beer etc ) and I have been smoke free for 3 days. This is the longest I've gone without the urge for a real cigarette for as long as I can remember

Patches made me irritable, gave me wild dreams (not in the good way) and put a huge strain on my marriage

Gum just plain didn't do it for me

Hypnosis - I just wouldn't :p

My problem has always been that I enjoy the rituals and the hit too much. My non smoking wife is over the moon, I'm looking forward to being healthier and more active and It'll save me a few pennies too

Just deciding between a TW Titan 510 or Tornado Tank... Got a starter kit of E-Lites without doing any research - turns out these are looked down upon by many vapers. If these are crap I can't wait to get a good kit :)

Just a thought to keep it informative for noobs like me, anyone who vapes here can you list:

What kit you have

Where you bought it

How good or bad their service is

Approximate cost of the unit

What you got with it

and what juice you are using

:)

Been vaping for just over a week now, doing well but still have a normal smoke, I've cut down from 20 - 30 a day roll ups to just 8, now heading for just 4 a day.

Got my kit from here http://www.libertyflights.co.uk/ its the Riva 510 starter kit which contains 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, a cone, 10 empty cartridges, USB charger and mains plug (read the info on mains plugs first.

I bought 2 kits one for me and one for my wife, total cost with selection of 5ml juices was 94 quid.

Try this forum for all info http://allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi? they also have lists of all vendors as well as discount codes.

The Tornado Tank and Titan 510 come highly recommended. Considering the 510 because of all the interchangeable accessories.

Friendly bunch over at UK Vapers Forum. Unlike the forums attached to shops they don't push one brand at you.

Got a few days of these E-Lites left, which are doing fine atm - smoke free all weekend :) then I'm going to get into mixing my own flavours!

I'd say go for the Tornado with a Riva battery. It'll last much longer (in terms of battery power) than a standard 510 which I've found runs out pretty quickly.

I'll also never stop heaping praise upon Garry Dibley's stuff (the "E-cig City" section on Liberty Flights). These days, I'm exclusively using his Baby Box Mod v2 (14500 rechargable battery lasts all day in this) with 510 atomiser fitted, and at home I use his USB passthrough (which is awesome).

In terms of liquid, I've just called an end to a random liquid purchasing spree as I realised I've ended up with quite a few smaller bottles of ones that I just don't want to touch, and others that I'm powering through just to get rid of them.

Ordered in a batch of OK Smokey's Mint and DF Old Holborn and Amber Leaf. I've been vaping 18mg for a while now, but went back to OKS's 30mg (which I started on when I first switched to vaping) and WHOOOOOOAAAAAAAAA. Kicks like a freakin' mule!

I'm also trying to figure out what the deal is with my skin, as recently I've been coming out in some pretty nasty zits - especially next to my nose where I figure I tend to exhale quite a bit. I think it's the VG as I purchased a few mainly-VG juices to try it out (others have been saying it's better than PG). I've found that it might give me the runs and seems to be causing spots - though that may also be due to dropping my nicotine strength.

Been scrubbing the hell out of my face regularly with clearasil, oxy pads, face wash, all sorts, but can't seem to stop the spots! Always in the same place, too... one on left of nose, that goes away for a few days, then one of the right crops up. Doing my head in!

Lol, not quite what we're talking about.

Glad this thread is getting interest from both new and old vapers. For those debating between the 510ml and tornado, you'll find the tornado batteries so much more forgiving and hassle free, and the tank also removes a lot of the maintenance from the equation, allowing you to just enjoy the experience.

I'd be interested to see what strength juice everyone here is on and how long they'd been on it. I started on 11mg, which seemed strong at first, but now I'm tempted to go up to 18 since I've acclimatised to it.
