GoPro alternative?

My son want a GoPro for his birthday, i am reluctant to get one as i am sure he will get bored with it soon after?

Are there cheaper alternatives that are just as good?

As good? No. But there are plenty, such as the SJ4000 etc already mentioned, that come close for a lot less.

Or just grab a £25 eBay clone to test the water first. Nowhere near as good image quality but hey, it's 1/10 the price!

GoPro Session is relatively cheap if you want to get into the GoPro ecosystem. No external mic or removable batteries though.

It doesn't need to be as good as a GoPro as he wont appreciate it. I was after something decent and not a load of rubbish.

Or an old generation GoPro?

SJCam M10 is a very good camera and comes with the GoPro type accessories.

SJCam SJ4000 is about as close as you'll get. Works with the GoPro accessories too.

I use my two all the time.

Does it have to be new? can get the hero 3+ on gopro ebay, it's a refurb but they're only £118. reboxed and are as good as new I've got 2. neither of them have a mark on them and work perfectly.

I bought an EKEN H9 Ultra HD 4K Action Camera for a holiday cost me around £30 shipped from china.
Cant complain at all came with aload of mounts only really wanted a waterproof one. Survived a 15ft drop to concrete without its case on well. Ive added a few photos and a random video to show what sort of quality you will get from a £30 action cam.

Get the SJ5000X elite its on par with the hero 4 and light years better than the SJ4000

The Hero 4 beats it at sound but there is a new firmware out to fix this and the go pro is 3 times the cost.

I got mine from them and it checked out okay on the SJCAM site.

I ordered one. Hopefully it will be okay.

Yeah looks ok to me. Going to take my sjcam with me to Iceland on Friday, hopefully get some quad bike/volcano footage.

going on holiday soon and fancy some snorkelling shots etc - can't justify 350 on a Go Pro Hero 4

narrowed it down to:

SJ5000 Elite

any ideas please? currently siding with one of the first two
