Anyone tempted by a Skull Canyon?

Just wondered if anyone had pre-ordered a "skull canyon" NUC?

Very tempted what with my fetish for all things small, probably could even pair it with a Razer Core and my 980ti for proper graphics performance to boot...

Must resist...

I was looking but for a price tag of over £1000 just for a barebone NUC and a Razer core I'd be mad to, unless money is no object.

For me it is sadly. Looks great though.

I was interested when it was first announced but after thinking about it, the whole package with something like a Razer core and all the power bricks would end up being as big as an SG13 and a lot more messy. It would also be about twice the price.

I like the idea of slotting away the Core somewhere the noise of the GPU won't bother me, which with a small conventional ITX system you can't really do.

By that logic though, you could just put the whole ITX system where you would have put the core. You can run longer video and usb cables than you can Thunderbolt, so a usb 3.0 hub on your desk running to a remote ITX box should give all the I/O you need.

The Razor core makes most sense when paired with a laptop that you will want to transport sans bulky GPU, or if you want the flexibility to pair your GPU with multiple systems ie.laptop and desktop/nuc.

Skull canyon looks interesting if only for the CPU with GT4e integrated graphics and TB3 - but really I'd like to see those in a laptop.

I'm tempted here. Compared to the current i7 NUC with a ULV chip it's at almost twice as powerful CPU wise, having 32 GB RAM capability and two m2 slots actually means I can build a very small VM server

I'm super tempted. Not a gamer, except for some light StarCraft II, which the on-board graphics should amply support. It's very expensive though! I'm going to wait for a few reviews first.

using it as my Work PC its pretty fast for my everyday tasks.

I ran 3d Mark sky diver on it. Here is a comparison with my Dell XPS 15 that is very similar spec but the XPS 15 has a GTX 960m in it.

The Iris onboard is not quite good enough for gaming i feel. It cannot even run the firestrike tests. I have yet to try and play any games on it as it is my office machine.
