Brand new in stock from Bitfenix, the Whisper series of 80+ Gold Certified power supplies. A few years ago Bitfenix launched the Fury, their first foray into the PSU market, and lets be honest, they didn't get it quite right. Whilst the braided cables as standard was a very nice feature, their choice of OEM & platform wasn't right for the market at the time. Rather than follow it up with another model, Bitfenix have gone back to the start and spent time creating the Whisper series, and I am confident that the effort has paid off.

The Bitfenix Whisper series is a range of 80+ Gold Certified fully modular units ranging from 450W to 850W in 100W increments. These are manufactured by CWT, who you all probably know make 90% of Corsairs PSU range. The Whisper boasts a slew of very desirable features, including class leading efficiency at 80+ Gold, extremely silent operation, full Japanese capacitor usage throughout, 7 year warranty, an attractive chassis design and more, yet the pricepoints are very competitive in comparison to the current market.

The Whisper features a low voltage 135mm FDB fan, allowing operation at approx 500RPM at lower loads. In fact, the Whisper can operate at under 18dBA whilst the load is under 60%, making it very quiet during normal usage. Protection offerings are comprehensive, with OCP on all rails, along with Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Under Voltage Protection (UVP), Over Power Protection (OPP), Short Circuit Protection (SCP), Over Temperature Protection (OTP), No Load Operation (NLO), Surge & Inrush Protection (SIP).

Pricing of the 650w, 750w and 850w versions are very good. Would have been nice to see the 550w a bit cheaper and the 450w £8-10 cheaper. £70 for a 450w psu is just crazy even if it is gold rated and modular. At least they have given them all the same length warranty instead of different warranty lengths based on the capacity like EVGA did with some of their range. Just need some reviews now.

Look's like they have dropped FSP as the OEM and have switched to CWT for these and the new Formula Bronze that have yet to be launched. These are a interesting triple and quad rail designs where each group of components get's it's own rail.

Dedicated Quad Rails
A dedicated quad rail design together with an advance voltage switching circuit from +12V to minor rail provides the best stability and output quality. The main quad +12V rails on all BitFenix Whisper models are dedicated as Motherboard + Peripherals, CPU, GPU 1 and GPU 2 (450W and 550W models only come with GPU1). All of these rails have dedicated Over Current Protection (OCP) circuits to keep your High-End-components safe all the time.

Pretty good reviews there and a big step up from the old Fury series. While some people don't like ribbon cables I really like them and they make for a neat cable management. What I don't like is the ugly capacitors sticking out of the 24 pin cable. A cable extension would need to be used there so you wouldn't have to look at them. The 550w has a lack of pci-e power cables too. I would have thought a good 550w unit would have 4x pci-e connectors not just a pair like this has. While it has the power to do the likes of a GTX970 in SLI it doesn't have the connectors. Not a problem with the likes of the GTX1070 though as it only has a single pci-e socket. With the keen pricing and 7 year warranties we now have a new range worthy of being recommended.
