so im building a friend a xeon 775 on the cheap. motherboard can take 8gb max but ive been looking for some cheap ram for him

i found 8gb where the seller says it doesnt work at all with intel boards just want to know why? obviously the bios wont take the epp profile but surely the jedec will be fine? the motherboard will take the same cl spec and mhz 800....

am i missing something else here or is it just a marketing gimmick? i only ask because they are half the price of the intel sticks they are selling, i can get 8gb for 16 quid and the intel ones are 40. i can either go with 4x2gb or 2x4gb but the 4gb is high density and not sure if the motherboard will support them

thanks in advance

ive seen that on fleabay, i dont know why or how, but the lister will do that to avoid a mountain of intel returns.

your best bet is 2gb sticks for value

4GB sticks of DDR2 is quite rare and when you find it, its quite expensive.

It took me ages to find 2 x 4GB single sticks about a year ago and when I did I paid quite a bit for it.

If your board has 4 slots just get 4 x 2GB sticks
