DDR3 Memory for a gaming rig

Hi,

I have an ASUS z97 gamer pro motherboard with 2x 4gb crucial ballistix Tactical DDR3-1866MHz - which aparantly have good timings 9.9.9.27 I think.

Would like to get 16gb but not really sure about speed timings etc.

My motherboard will go to 3200mhz XMP and has 4 slots

I have about £100

The timings confuses me but it looks like the faster the mhz the slower the latency. Can someone point me in the direction of some fast memory for gaming.

Thanks

OK I have been reading up and found 3 that should do -

HyperX Savage 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 1866 MHz DDR3 CL9 DIMM XMP CL9

Crucial 16GB DDR3 1866MHz Ballistix Tactical 9-9-9-24

Corsair CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R Vengeance Pro Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 2400Mhz CL11 XMP

The last one is faster but has higher latency.

Am I along the right tracks or would anyone recommend something different?

Overclock your CPU, you should get 4Ghz atleast which will add a little boost to gaming whilst costing you nothing :)

The only other 'worthwhile' boost would be the gfx card. A 970 is no slouch but the next jump up would be a 2nd hand 980Ti or a 1070 , either would be a considerable improvement in fps ( but also a lot more money ).

With new CPUs coming from both Intel and AMD next year, i would not invest in more DDR3 until we see what these new cpus offer.

I run Z97 mobo and i5 4670k and it is still good enough for current gaming.

Why are some people saying 8GB is better for gaming ? when I have seen overclocking stats showing that DDR3 16GB at 2133 runs games at 10% more FPS on high end cards on windows 10 ?

Can you link to them benchmarks? I was always under the impression memory speed had little difference on FPS

It depends on the game, you may see a 10% increase in FPS in some titles whereas in others it's negligible. The video that I posted in this thread shows some benches.
