Hi

My Asus Maximus VII Hero MB went pop last Tuesday and took the processor with it.
Its a boxed i7-4790K bought at the beginning of last year so within Intel's 3 year warranty.
I'm usually a hoarder but had a good clear out a couple of months ago and the box and stock fan were recycled not thinking for a moment that they might be part of the warranty T&C.

Can I RMA the item without these?
I have the original invoice and of course another for the replacement

Incidentally, what has happened to prices? The replacement was significantly more expensive.

Fairly sure you don't need the original box/fan/etc.

Just make sure it's in an anti-static bag and well packaged.

You should contact with Intel directly, I heard they are pretty flexible with this

You can buy the little plastic clamshell cases that intel ship their CPUs in for less than £2.

CPU replaced in 4 working days - impressive!

did they ask for the original invoice may I ask?

No they didn't.
I raised that question and was told they could tell from the serial on the CPU when it was made.
