I want to check with you fine people
But as the title entails
My MSI R9 390X is melting
It is from Overclockers
And it is hitting 85 degrees at 100% fan RPM
Case Fractal design S
X3 Corsair 140AF front
1 fan that came with the case on the bottom of the case
With side panel off it is hitting 84
Ambient room temperature 20 degrees

This is a new thing
When i got it the fan was spinning 60% for 82 degrees maximum
And at the moment if i overclock the card will pass 93 degrees and crash

What are the chances of getting this replaced or fixed?

Is it a MSI card? if so they have a habit of putting on too much thermal paste so might be worth re doing that if its getting that hot

My R9 290 hits 90 degrees playing the witcher 3, no adverse effect. AMD cards are fine running at much higher temperatures than you would be used to on Nvidia, Perhaps the crash is due to an unstable overclock?

Wouldn't worry too much about the warranty, I contacted MSI and they say as long as there is no damage to the card whilst replacing the thermal paste than you are OK.

Search the graphics card section for "thermal" and you will see members Temps have dropped a good 20 degrees.

double checked on the MSI forum
The word is that the card retains its warranty
if i do not destroy it
Will change the thermal paste after work with some arctic silver 5
I hope temps will go down by more than the original paste

temps should drop mate, I used Arctic 5 on mine and dropped about 16 degrees.

The MSI 390X is a toasty card.

85 degrees is pretty good for a loaded card.

Biggest drop in temps i had was when i changed all my fans to exhaust to remove the bulk of the heat.

Prior to that i'd seen mine hit 92 on some of the hotter days we've had ( I think they start to throttle back at 94 degrees ).

Change the paste and look at your airflow :)

My R9 390 from MSI used to hit 94c and throttle down to the point where the performance was similar to my old 7870. Changed the thermal paste and it improved a little, but still got to 94c (Just took longer to get there).

In the end I chose a G1 970 and that never went over 78c under load at 1500mhz. They're just naturally hot cards.
