upgrading the M2.0 drive on my mobo

I have a gigabyte gaming 5P X99 mobo along with Samsung M2 SSD from the 2015 black friday bundle.

At the time i knew it was somewhat hamstrung by the motherboard, however its started to annoy me that i am running at half speed.

if i was to buy a PCIE slot in card and mount the drive in that, is it simply a plug and play matter or will i have to reinstall windows 10 again?

I believe it should work. How many PCIE lanes are you currently using?
And what CPU do you have? 5820k? 5930k ?

thanks for your reply, its a 5820k. I do not forsee any lane issues as i only have a single gpu on there any nothing else using the lanes aside from that SSD.
