Do i need software for a bluray drive to work?

Ive bought a sumsung blu ray drive

Do i need software for a bluray drive to work, or is it plug n play?

fully installed it works, cd games install, dvd movies work and disc software no issues.

But as soon as I insert a blu ray disc it does not work, it makes a buzz noise like its trying to read..

Im thinking does it need software to work a blu ray disc or is the drive faulty?

anyone else got a bluray drive?

Unfortunately windows put's blu-ray film playback behind a paywall

The only reliable option that is free that i have come across is an app called Leawo

oh ok, so is that why my bluray discs does not work in my bluray drive?

I need software that probably needs paid for, somthing to do with licensing?,

You should be able to see the data on blu-ray discs perfectly fine but running them is another story, Because Windows by default doesn't support blu-ray video playback without payment you need to use an application like the one in the link i posted above it is a free blu-ray player application that can play blu-ray videos happily.

Blu-ray playback on a PC is pretty poor.
It's actually atrocious it's allowed to be this way.

PowerDVD is probably your best bet, I have a subscription to their PowerDVD Live, which I think works out decently, but it won't stretch to 21:9 on my Ultrawide, the only software that did that was Arcsoft which is now defunct.

Or you just rip out the protection using various software and use VLC Player.

It's definitely stemmed my Blu-ray collection.

I got a free subscription to power DVD when i bought my laptop.

My laptop that doesn't have an optical drive because its an ultrabook -_-

Subscription? If it's PowerDVD Live then just install on your PC?

I've got 2 portable Blu-ray drives, one that's USB only and sits in a powered USB hub connected to my Surface 3 Pro, and a big fat mains powered external I use when I go out on my Ultrabook.

just installed klite but something is wrong, its not even reading the files, let alone play them, im getting a sound like the players trying to read but cant, its a buzzing sound and then stops, strange though coz non blu ray discs work...
