5.25 is where the optical drives usually go at the top, they are wide enough that an HDD doesn't touch the walls so you can suspend it on cables / string etc.

Try a bit of blu tack judiciously placed her or there to dampen where any vibration could be.

That cable should be fine.

Do the bungee mod for the hdd, you will be surprised how well it works.

What case have you got?

What size cord did you try? Think i used ~ 5mm when i did mine.

You can use the wide spaces instead of screw holes, as long the cord is reasonably tight and as level as you can get it.

You should be aware though this will only stop case vibration, not the noise of the hdd working.

Not used the Vibe Fixer, but looks like it may work. Think i would try the mod again first though before spending that much.

I would get one of these.

I have used WD Green HDDs before and they are quiet. (believe they are now the WD blue)

Never tried the Red, so not sure if they are worth the price premium.

I would still do the bungee mod though, (if you go to a shop selling sewing supplies you should get something better).
