Good to see 970s still selling for £200ish. Might sell mine and get a 1070 when the third party coolers are out.

At which point our 970's will probably be worth £100 -£150

My 970 will be replacing a 280x in my HTPC when I get a 1070, I expect the 280x will be worth about £50!!!

Completely agree.

1440p = 1070
4K = 1080Ti

The 1080 just doesn't have a "use" right now. Pretty sure the 1070 will smash everything in VR too.

I reckon the purpose of the 80 card these days is just to sell boat loads of 70s - bring out the expensive 80 card, show it's performance and then 2 weeks later show the 70 and how it matches the previous gen top card at £3-400, sell shed loads of them and profit.

If people buy 80s then, meh, it's a win as it's expensive, but the plan here is surely to sell everyone a 1070, just look at the 970.

80 card is redundant, 70 card for the masses and Titan/Ti for the enthusiast/epeeners.

+1 cannot agree with this more, this is exactly how it seems, making their 1080 redundant almost immediately by bringing out the 1070. I expect the 1070 to sell in droves like the 970 did.

The 1080 isn't irrelevant, it's a just about passable 4K card, the 1070 isn't really. It's all about the game you want to play, the resolution and the frame rate you want.

A 1070 is nearing overkill for 1080p in most games, even at 120Hz+
At 1440p or 1440UW, it will be a good card, but won't do 100+ fps in a lot of games.

A 1080 would do 100fps+ in a lot of games at 1440p, but probably not hit 144fps all the time.

A slightly more expensive option would be 2x1070 which should crush anything at 1440p with high fps, and be pretty good at 4K (60 fps in most things I'd guess)

For high fps at 4k though you're looking at 2x1080.

Any thoughts on what might be the coolest 1070 card? Talking temperature! I won't really need to oc as even in stock form it's far more than I require even at ultra 1440p. (I have a 60hz monitor)

Even overclocked it can't get near the 1080, failure.

It was never going to match a 1080 even overclocked, it has 33% less cuda cores and 25% less memory bandwidth, I think they had to make a larger gap than they did with 970 and 980 as the only reason some people got 980 was because of the VRAM issue had. If that wasn't present then I'd be willing to bet 980 wouldn't have sold as many as it has. for the price mid £350 that's faster than a (at time of release only a year ago) £550 card and £800+ Titan X on a chip that is half the size much less resources then it's anything BUT a fail :)

Exactly this, looking at the benchmarks upto 1440p you can say 1070 is enough MOST of the time however looking at 4k benchmarks you're left saying I could do with that extra 20-25% more performance that 1080 offers which is why I'm still happy I pre-ordered the FTW 1080 :)

1080 is too expensive for me personally even though it has a nice cushion over the 1070. If it was around 450 I would probably nibble but tad too much.

So more than likely gonna nab a decent custom cooked 1070 and OC it. Price of the 1070 will determine if I buckle and get a 1080 or not :p

Should be a nice upgrade over my 780Ti :)
