Good to see 970s still selling for £200ish. Might sell mine and get a 1070 when the third party coolers are out.
Completely agree.
1440p = 1070
4K = 1080Ti
The 1080 just doesn't have a "use" right now. Pretty sure the 1070 will smash everything in VR too.
I reckon the purpose of the 80 card these days is just to sell boat loads of 70s - bring out the expensive 80 card, show it's performance and then 2 weeks later show the 70 and how it matches the previous gen top card at £3-400, sell shed loads of them and profit.
If people buy 80s then, meh, it's a win as it's expensive, but the plan here is surely to sell everyone a 1070, just look at the 970.
80 card is redundant, 70 card for the masses and Titan/Ti for the enthusiast/epeeners.
Even overclocked it can't get near the 1080, failure.
The 1080 isn't irrelevant, it's a just about passable 4K card, the 1070 isn't really. It's all about the game you want to play, the resolution and the frame rate you want.
A 1070 is nearing overkill for 1080p in most games, even at 120Hz+
At 1440p or 1440UW, it will be a good card, but won't do 100+ fps in a lot of games.
A 1080 would do 100fps+ in a lot of games at 1440p, but probably not hit 144fps all the time.
A slightly more expensive option would be 2x1070 which should crush anything at 1440p with high fps, and be pretty good at 4K (60 fps in most things I'd guess)
For high fps at 4k though you're looking at 2x1080.
