No, it's NOT a mid range card.

Performance wise, it's better than ANY of their existing current range. This is their new flagship card. It's a DIRECT replacement for the existing 980 & Titan ranges, which are high end.

Yes, there will probably be faster ones. But until they exist, this is the very best from Nvidia, the highest of the high end.

Yes it is, you obviously didn't read my explanation of why it is.

It's not a replacement for the titan or the 980ti.

This is a mid range card which is faster than the previous gens high end. Which has happened for every die shrink ever. You are case in point of how well Nvidia marketing has worked, a simple name change has you certain this is a high end card.

If this card is the highest of the high end, then the 16nm node shrink is a major disappointment.

I'm confused. Since when were the 980 cards mid range? The 970 was low end then? What about everything below that? Entry level? That makes no sense.

The 980 and 970 were both mid-range... 67% chip (ish... the 970 was a *******ised 980 which has caused horrible performance issues & despite the statement from Nvidia CEO, the 1070 will be the same... DO NOT buy the 1070 unless you have severe problems with your vision).

The 950 and 960 are low-end... 50% chip

The 980ti and titan x are high end... the full size chip

Same for 680/780/titan

680/670 = mid-range
780ti/titan = high end

Same for 10XX series:
1080/1070 = mid-range
1080ti/1080titan = high-end
1050/1060 = low-end

Look four+ generations back and you will see the distinct change in pattern when AMD killed ATi and Nvidia no longer had viable competition.

I don't get why we still have this argument... it's blind stupidity.

That's exactly how I see it.

So sick of this now.

Perfectly honestly... I WANT a pair of 1080ti cards whenever they are released... but I'm finally voting with my wallet and waiting a generation... Nvidia need to stop this.

A 980ti for over £500 was bad enough... but a 1080 for over £600 is absolutely bonkers.

The price jump in 3-4 years for appropriate technology has doubled, far exceeding inflation or cost of production.

I kinda don't mind them doing that to companies with the Tesla range... but when it comes to home users it's just abhorrent.

Most software companies are going the other way and charging companies big bucks while minimising the cost to home users so all can affordably use their offering.

A quick over-view would suggest:

GTX
1080 - High-end, current fastest.
980Ti - High-end, not far off 1080
980 - High-end
970 - High-end

PMSL. Ahhh, so a quick overview of your list would suggest if I buy a 970 I get a high end card performing GPU like the 1080. GREAT, WOW, AMAZING! [face palm]

Guys, I don't care if you disagree with each other. Calling people dumb, idiots or accusing them of taking drugs because their opinion differs from your own is unacceptable.

Well said

This needs to be said on the graphic card forums as well. Too many "know it all's" there that need to be knocked down a step.

In the flesh the cooler design is far nicer than in photos and just to 100% confirm for those who do not know it does have a backplate. :)
