Great, thanks. Might be helpful to others if people post motherboards that are known to let or not let you do the upgrade with a Kaby Lake installed. Could be there aren't any except those that support flashing without a CPU. Gigabyte call this Q-Flash Plus (different from plain Q-Flash).
