I'm thinking of getting a secondary hard drive to go with my primary SSD drive,
and I see all different types but they seem to have the same specs.
So my question is

What is the actual difference between
Blue- Pc hard drive,
Red- NAS
Purple- Surveillance
Black- Performance Hard Drive

could you use a purple drive for steam and origin games or is it for CCTV only.

The main difference is warranty, rpm speeds and build quality with focus on the usage pattern. This is how I see it, there may be differences.

Blue: Standard PC hard drive - not specifically designed for 24/7 operation and will have high RPM. Average warranty.
Red: Designed for 24/7 operation with low rpm speeds for longevity. Average to high warranty
Purple: Optimised for write and longevity as well as environmental resistance. High warranty.
Black: High performance drives. High RPM for datacenters and other high bandwidth requirements. High warranty.

For personal PC us, blue is fine. For file server on 24/7 Reds should be fine for 2-6 user access. Anything above that is a waste of money imho.

This is what I do....

128GB SSD for Windows
128GB SSD for Origin
575GB SSD for Steam

Laptop hard drive for things like a local copy of my Music / Photos (which are on my NAS)

I wouldn't fit a normal sized drive in my PC, they are too loud.

In your case, I would go with Blue or Red. Black are pretty loud.

I have a Green in my desktop (I think these were replaced by the Blue) and a Red in my NAS, in my PC my OS and Apps are installed on my SSD and my Steam and Origin games are installed on my Green.
