Benefits of faster memory in modern games?

Hello all,

I was wondering if there is any tangible benefit of faster memory in modern games? I know that a while ago there wasn't much benefit, but I seem to recall reading surprisingly good frame rate boosts more recently, and these days you can get RAM twice as fast as mine!

My PC currently consists of:

i7 2700K @ 4.7GHz (sometimes 5GHz)
16GB DDR3 1600MHz
2x R9 390 8GB

Is there going to be any benefit to me getting faster RAM? I'm particularly interested to know if it would help my frame rate in Fallout 4 @ 4K.

There have been a couple of posts about this recently, see here for instance. I think it's a YMMV kinda thing depending on the game.
