My current non windows system drive "F", game install only 1TB Black WD drive has got a lot of bad sectors, so it will be sent back for new one, so my question is before i send it back, i will buy a new drive and do the following, cut and paste all the 700 GB over to new 2TB drive, is this ok to do that, all games have been installed over the last 9 months on to it, would take weeks to reinstall it all, i think im ok to do this, confirmation please, cheers

I had to do a copy of all my files (window system drive) but I'm assuming the principal is the same. I used Macrium Reflect software http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx to clone the drive, plugged in the new one, copied everything across then removed the old HD. Sounds like that would be fine for what you need to do as well.

Thx for reply, yeh clone would deffo be needed on a system drive as you would need all the hidden files/folders and registry etc, but was hoping just a cut and paste would do, thx anyway.

Yep, that'll work, just remember to give the new drive the same letter afterwards.

Thx for confirmation, yeh i will match the drive letter, i guess cut and paste is just the same as installing the game anyway, as all the registry info is still there anyway, cheers.

Cut/paste doesn't always work in a case like this, it won't always apply all the permissions, just use Macrium.

Registry items are all stored on the C drive in one folder.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM : \system32\config\system
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SAM : \system32\config\sam
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SECURITY : \system32\config\security
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE : \system32\config\software
HKEY_USERS \UserProfile : \winnt\profiles\username
HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT : \system32\config\default

Don't mess with these files

Games will be fine. You might need to trick steam into thinking they are already installed but other than that you should be good.
