Hi guys,

There is quite a lot of RAM on offer this week at OCUK.

Which is best to go for?

I will be running 16GB ram with an i5-6600k on a gigabyte z3 motherboard.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8Gb 3200 MHz was £74.99 now £65.99

Avexir Core Red Series 2x8Gb 2400 MHz was £89.99 now £59.99

Balistix Sport LT 4x4Gb 2400 MHz was £82.99 now £59.99

Team Group Dark 2x8Gb 3000 MHz was £65.99 now £53.99 (but is quite tall)

Or do I just go for the cheapest 16Gb kit I can get:

Team Group Elite 2x8Gb 2400 MHz £44.99 not on offer.

So fastest? Cheapest? Something in between?

Thanks

I've been looking at exactly the same!
I'm thinking:
Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8Gb 3200 MHz was £74.99 now £65.99 or
Team Group Dark 2x8Gb 3000 MHz was £65.99 now £53.99
Its better to have 2 modules with skylake and it responds well to speed.
Theres also:
Xtreem 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-31200C18 3866MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black which is tempting but I'm thinking I'm better off with 16gb

If I wasn't going for an i5-6600K I would be happy with the 2400 MHz to save £20. But with the K processor and overclocking it, seems silly to constrict it with slower ram. What I don't know is whether that will make any difference and I know ram can be OC'd as well.

If the cheaper ram can be OC'd then I'd rather save £20.

I think 16GB is a sensible choice these days, for future proofing. From what I understand there is no advantage to getting 4x4Gb modules as it still runs in dual channel mode.

I'd be happy with the 3000 MHz Team group dark for 53.99 but I'm concerned that it will be a tight fit with having a larger cooler on the CPU. It was recommended to me in another thread to go for the low profile ram.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £74.69
(includes shipping: £8.70)

Only two years ago we were paying that sort of money for just 8GB. Will you notice a difference to slower memory? Only in a few things, like Fallout 4 should you play it. The rest of the time it will be a "waste" of extra money. If you can afford, get it, if you can't, be happy as it will run everything anyway, as fast as with fast memory in 99% of things.

OC'ing memory is pot luck. Some might be stable a bit faster, some won't.
