Im in the market for a monitor to use with my laptop (nvidia 970m graphics card), so my laptop is capable of 4k. It currently has a 17" 1080p display and looks great.

I like the idea of the 4k being future proof and being able to make use of 4k content.

I also want to use my ps4 with this monitor and this is where my concern lies. With the ps4 outputting a max of 1080p will it look poor on the 4k monitor - albeit it would be exactly 4x the resolution.

I currently play on a 1080p 32" tv and looks spot on. Ive tried it on a 55" LG 4k tv and it looks fine on there. Cant really see much of a difference. I understand the quality wont be better. I just dont want it to be poor.

Thanks in advance.

1440 @ 32" is the way to go imo.

Had 30" 4K Dell monitor, text was WAAAY too small to be workable.
Got a 32" Benq 1440p and it hits the sweet spot.

Same text scaling as 24" 16:10 which is spot on.

For gaming Id go for a 34" superwide if your gfx card can drive it.

Based on your laptop some I would go 1080p. A 970m isn't up to running 1080p at ultra and 60fps on modern titles so 4K is a very distant target.

If your looking to future proof then 4K all the way.

32" seems really big. I have a 32" tv and I couldnt imagine having that sat on a desk and using it as a computer!

I am thinking between Samsung s27d850t and Dell ultrasharp U2715H.

Was originally set on the Dell until someone from work recommended checking out the samsung monitors.
