Monza

Monza is regarded by many as the embodiment of Formula One racing.

Not only is it a fantastic example of a track that combines speed with skill, it also has a heart and soul all of its own. It has seen some of the finest races of all time, but also some of the sport's worst accidents. The names of great drivers and the sounds of engines from years gone by linger in the grand old trees surrounding the track in the royal park.

Work began on the circuit in 1922 and was completed in under six months. After Brooklands in the UK and Indianapolis in the USA, it was the third permanent race track in existence. With a banked oval incorporated into the design of the road racing circuit, the total track length stood at a whopping 10 kilometres.

Formula One racing visited the circuit as part of the inaugural season in 1950, and it has remained a permanent fixture on the calendar ever since.

Over that time, Monza has borne witness to an incredible list of historic moments, famous victories and horrifying crashes. All combine to make it one of the most magical places on the Formula One calendar. For many there is nowhere that encapsulates the sport better than this circuit. The Italians call it 'La Pista Magica', the magic track, a description few would disagree with.

So minimum tyre pressure was ~24PSI for Spa this last weekend, last year Monza was ~19PSI. What is the betting of something like ~22PSI this coming weekend?

Not that Monza is hard on tyres, it will probably be as many super softs as they can throw at the car, plus one set of softs to comply with a compound change in the race.

Lets hope Max spends some time in the simulator with Ricci ahead of the weekend, fine tuning his defensive reactions. And stewards learn to penalise driving that at least threatens to break F1 racing rules!;)

I think Hulkenberg is going to regret that barren supply of softs :p

Don't expect a classic race though.

I think this will be one of those races we don't see the Mercedes team dew to being so far ahead. Red Bull will run the skinny wing setup to compensate for lack of power which I think will frustrate the hell out of Ferrari. A massive weekend for Ferrari on home turf. Will be interesting to see what direction the management want Ferrari to take next. Force India should be strong, should be a good battle with Williams. McLaren are getting there, roll on next year for them, fingers crossed Stoffel Vandoorne gets his well deserved seat. Also looking forward to the battle between Ocon and Wehrlein. I think those two will bring the best out of each other.

So if I'm looking at the table correctly last weekend saw the elimination of all drivers up to Massa from the championship and this weekend could remove everyone up to and including Bottas.

Bit OT, but Sky are showing F1 All Stars vs Football Legends at 5pm today.

Verstappen, Alonso etc.. vs Roberto Carlos, Robert Pires and more.
