4.6 @ 1.2v (stock)
4.8 @ 1.3v

Anything above 4.8 the heat gets a bit too toasty for my liking, so have not pushed further.

Very pleased, golden chip! Using Gigabyte K3 my, excellent simple board.

Interesting your Gigabyte K3 has those results, but I guess its down to the chip and silicon lottery. I know from the previous owner my chip can do 4.7 at 1.33v on an Asrock board, but on my Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 I can't get 4.7 stable at 1.4v or less, and 4.6 is at 1.35v.

4.8ghz at 1.3v must be one of the top 1% of chips.

I must say that although i have mine at 4.6ghz and 1.29v, i haven't tried pushing the multiplier up any more.

I just set it up and tested for stability. It was stable so i left it alone.

I'll play with it more over the coming weeks.

Under the hot sun.
I have a 6700k, asrock z170 gaming k6 motherboard and 16gb of corsair 3000mhz ddr4 being delivered today. I was wondering how different this setup will be to overclock compared to my old 2500k? Anyone got any tips?

Does your Asrock has overclocking mode with presets? (At least mine does hase presets all way past 5Ghz)

If so, and you have the CPU watercooled rammed it to 4.8. If aircooled not set it to 4.5-4.6 and observe the temps.

4.5GHz at the auto vcore is what I'm happy with it seems., tried manual voltage at 1.25, 1.28 and 1.3 at 4.5GHz, but Lightroom crashes randomly. At auto vcore (which ranges from 1.18-1.36 depending on demand) it's rock stable and the highest temp I've seen when exporting a RAW batch in Lightroom has been 72 degrees. During gaming the highest temp range is ~60-65.

Normal running temps just browsing the web and using software is 29-30 degrees with the new Nanoxia deep silence fans.on the H115i.

Correct!

Cannonlake will be the new gen to go for if you're not on Skylake right now. 10nm is the way to go. If you are, then whatever is the tickover release from Cannonlake will be the one to go for I guess. Depends on how big a jump Cannonlake is of course :p

Less heat, less power consumption and faster + smaller might mean those of us on Skylake will just upgrade anyway for that advantage alone.

I just didn't see the point in kaby lake in the end. It's just skylake running a couple of hundred mhz faster.

You just know it will cost silly money on launch and offer nothing more than skylake.

I'm quite happy with a 6700k and z170 board.

My one at 4.5 using auto voltage is rock solid encoding videos and exporting Lightroom RAW files which maxes out all cores.

Gaming is the same, although no games keep the cores at 100% utilisation like photo/video encoding does.

Maximum temperature is 82 degrees with the H115i (AS5 paste) and fans at ~600rpm.

I haven't tried any higher than 4.6 so far, although i reckon it would do 4.8.

I don't think the extra heat and voltage would be worth the 200mhz.

Really pleased with my new setup though. Although not night and day better than the 2500k.

WoW. besides setting multiplier and voltage, what else can be done on 6700k/ROG hero 8 for ocing more than 4.5 with 1.239V? Preferably more in the 4800 mhz daily use.
