I'm looking for a new laptop / ultrabook and could do with some recomendations.

Preferably 14" with thin bezels
i7 6th / 7th Gen
16GB ram
256 / 512 SSD
a 940MX gpu would be nice too (seems to be the biggest they put in slim ultrabooks)
unibody metal design

Added extra;
360 screen
touch with active pen support

Currently on the list is;
ASUS ux410uq (if it comes out in the UK)
HP Spector x360
Lenovo Yoga 710 / 910
I did look at the Dell XPS 13 / 15 but didn't really like the build.

Spotted anything new from CES that would bit the bill?

i7 7th gen but its the 7500u
SSD if you want
180 degree screen
940mx

etc etc

The GS40 and the GS43 are great little machines, I would have considered one prior to getting my AORUS.

If you consider getting a GS43VR, have a read through the MSI GAMING LAPTOP OWNERS THREAD here.

I'm in a similar situation and stuck between this

Aorus X3 Plus v7-CF1
13.9" IGZO QHD+ 3200x1800
i7 7820HK
NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5
512GB M.2 PCIe SSD
16GB 2400MHz DDR4
Windows 10 Home (64-Bit)
2yr Warranty

or this

GS43VR 7RE(Phantom Pro)-061UK
14" FHD IPS 1920x1080
i7 7700HQ
NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5
256GB SSD
1TB 7200RPM HDD
16GB 2400MHz DDR4
Windows 10 Home (64-Bit)
2yr Warranty

If the Aorus had TB3 it would be decided but it doesn't so the MSI is still tempting me as I need to get 4 years from which ever I choose.

I understand what you are saying, the best advice I can offer is to read through the appropriate threads on the forums about the level of service provided by each vendor, and choose the one that you feel provides best.

Sorry for the thread bump but I wanted to share my opinion on the MSI GS43VR7RE.

My initial impressions were that it looked nice and has a decent keyboard.

I received this yesterday from online retailer. As I was setting up windows from start up I noticed some flickering on screen. I thought it was in my head at first, as it seemed like a bunch of dead pixels. Though shortly it became apparent with image flicker and screen tearing. This was apparent and even made downloading drivers difficult. A reboot wouldn’t sort it out.

At first I thought the graphics card was artifactinting but trying different drivers. Removing all the bloatware msi puts on didn’t fix it.

I decided to google the issue and it seems it’s quite common. It’s static which is being picked up by the screen from the WiFi card apparently and testing the the theory of when the screen would flicker to turn off the WiFi to see if it would stop. It would. Not surprising considering they decided to place the WiFi card underneath a heat sink.

Some said a replacement WiFi card was needed and another person had his whole screen replaced which took around 2-3 months due to a coil picking up the WiFi signal when browsing the internet. Anything to basically do with heavy downloading results in this. Light webpage usages results in the small static pixels jumping around on the screen.

I contacted MSI but had no response in 24 hours. Looked on the forums and it seems they don’t really reply to issues either. So I just thought sod it send it back.

Decided to send it back for a refund which isn’t an issue with the online retailer after I explained what the issue was. A guy in the reviews section had 2 replacement units before he gave up.

I have now ordered a Gigabyte aero 14. Hopefully that will be ok.

I wouldn’t buy another msi product to be honest. I understand that sometimes these things can happen but at the price you pay they shouldn’t. Customer service also seems non existent *cough* razer *cough*
