Worth it in replacement of 2 x 290 ?

Monitor is 3440x1440 Dell curved.

It would be watercooled

Currently - no issues with crossfire and as both 290's are watercooled no noise or heat issues. (upgrade itch ? - Maybe )

I haven't even installed my 980 yet and I'm tempted by this

Are there any metal backplates sold that fit these founders edition cards?

I think the only reason to consider it is because 1070s will go down further in price next year so could be a cheap way to sli. Wouldn't really do it though. Wait for Vega/Volta.

This card already has a backplate installed

I'm going to wait till either sub £300 1070's to sli or Volta.

Those are cheap plastic though...

I need a metal backplate on my gpu as it's the only thing that reduces interference with my sound card. I doubt that plastic thing on the back of the founders would work.

I could swear FE 1070 cards have metal backplates, I certainly do not remember them being plastic, if they are they are a damn good imitation.

On Kitguru, they specifically mention a metal backplate on the 1070 FE.

Any ideas how noisy this is? Am I better putting up the extra for the AMP version?

Yep metal plate. Techpowerup 1070FE review.

NVIDIA has refreshed their cooler design to a more edgy look by putting polygon surfaces on the cooler, which was smooth before. It takes a while to get used to, but looks alright once you have. On the back is a very thin, metal backplate that covers the whole card. Part of it is removable, but more on that later. Dimensions of the card are 27.0 cm x 11.0 cm.

I asked in the 1070 owners thread and was told that they're plastic.

Is it true after 28 days, any RMA has to be sent back to Hong Kong? If so how long would the wait be for replacement?
